Oil & Fluid

Truck Oil & Fluid Repair in Corpus Christi, Texas

Transmission and Transfer Case

Your transmission and transfer case both use fluid to lubricate their inner gearing. These components need to have their fluids changed once every 30 to 60 thousand miles. If this service is missed, both components may overheat. Your transfer case is especially at risk because it doesn’t have a cooler like your transmission. That being said, your transmission cooler can also fail if your transmission fluid is old enough to break down.

Differential and Axle Housings

Your differential and axle housings need their gear oil changed every 30 to 60 thousand miles. Both your differential gears and axle shafts use the same oil, meaning you only need to get the housing drained and filled. Failing to meet this service interval may cause your rear end to bind up and fail.

Engine Oil and Coolant

Diesel engines use both oil and coolant to mitigate friction and heat. Your oil lubricates your engine’s inner components while your coolant absorbs radiant heat. Engine oil on a heavy-duty truck needs to be changed once every 20 thousand miles. On a medium-duty truck, oil should be changed every 12 thousand miles, and every 3 to 6 thousand miles for a light-duty truck. Coolant on the other hand can be changed once every 30 to 60 thousand miles.
